Porterville Twins Photographer | Moms Rock!

Moms rock! But twin moms take to a whole new level. All new parents are learning how to take care of their baby. If you are a parent then you know, it can be a little overwhelming. Sometimes a lot overwhelming! Feeding, burping, diapering, soothing, bathing, clipping tiny fingernails. (That last one scared me the most.) Now imagine all of that times two. Yikes! But twin moms do it. They figure out a way to make things work, and they do it. Because moms rock!

By the way, dads rock too. But the title of the blog was moms rock, so…;)

Porterville Newborn Photographer | Blogs Are Hard

As a Porterville Newborn Photographer I try to keep up on my blog…but blogs are hard. I know it’s good for SEO, free advertising, my clients love to see their images. I know all that. But I run out of things to talk about, I don’t think I’m really that interesting.

Case in point, I have a friend who follows me on Instagram and keeps asking how I get the babies to sleep so peacefully. I tried to joke with her…a little cough syrup in their bottle puts them right out. 😉 But she kept asking, she really wanted to know. Okay well, there’s a few tricks, I guess. I wrap baby up snug as soon as they get here. I keep the studio nice and warm. White noise (aka The Baby Shusher) sold here https://babyshusher.com/

But as I was photographing this sweet little one I got the distinct feeling I was just boring…I bore the babies to sleep. Halfway through the session my assistant nudges me and nods toward the seating area in my studio. Not only is the baby sleeping peacefully but both parents as well! I had warmed them and shushed them and bored them all to sleep. 😀

I’m really not that interesting and I don’t know why anyone would want to read my blog. But if you would like to book a newborn session please contact me here https://bellies-n-babiesphotography.com/contact-me

Porterville Newborn Photographer | Mother’s Intuition

Even if you’re a new mom you have “mother’s intuition” or maternal instincts. There are so many decisions to make when you’re a parent…bottle or breast, spanking or time-out, cloth diapers or disposable, co-sleeping or not. Everyone you meet has advice for you – your doctor, your sister, the lady in the produce section at the grocery store – everyone. Listen to that advice, do your own research but balance it with your mother’s intuition. Some decisions will just feel “right”. Sometimes you will have a gut feeling. So trust yourself.

This is not always easy when you’re a new mom. Your doctor is much more educated than you are, your sister has three kids, the lady at the grocery store has been a preschool teacher for 27 years…they must know more than you do, right? Nope. Not when it comes to your kid, anyway. You’re the expert on your kid. You spend more time with him than anyone else. You know what is normal and you know when something is wrong. So trust yourself. Listen to their advice, do your own research but don’t second-guess your mother’s intuition.

This little guy has a mom he can depend on. She is already learning to trust her instincts and speak up in behalf of her baby. She knows what’s right for him because she is the expert on her baby. She trusted herself. She’s already a great mother and she’s just getting started.

Porterville Newborn Photographer | Older Baby

It sounds strange to call a three week old infant an “older baby”. Newborn photos are typically taken within the first two weeks of life. If you wait longer it’s a bit more challenging. Babies are more alert so it may be tough to get them to stay asleep. They aren’t as flexible so they may not curl up into the poses we’ve all seen on Pinterest. Baby may have developed acne or peeling skin, both of which make editing a real pain for me. So, in the newborn photography industry, this baby was an older baby.

Having said that, babies don’t always follow the plan we make for them. Even if a mom books her newborn session early in her last trimester like she’s supposed to, a new baby can mess up all of the arrangements. (I don’t want to say get used to it, but…) Sometimes there is a health issue that prevents mama or baby from being at the studio the day of their scheduled session. It happens. But don’t worry…we can still get gorgeous portraits of your little one. Call me, even if you have an older baby. I never guarantee that I will get a certain pose but I guarantee you will have a beautiful gallery of your baby. This session is a perfect example!

Welcome to the world little one.

Porterville Maternity Photographer | Couples

As a maternity photographer I meet a lot of couples. I’m certain that this sweet couple will defy marriage statistics and be happy together forever. They talked and laughed together during the entire session. I could easily tell that they love and respect one another. When she was off changing into another gown, he was singing her praises to me. She recently finished nursing school…she’s an extraordinary writer, sure to be published one day…she likes Star Wars as much as he does. The adoration was evident and a joy for me to witness.

With five more babies in their plans (I’m still not sure if that’s for real or a joke) I think we’ll get to know each other very well. I’m just glad that I’ll get to see their love continue to grow. A happy marriage is a wonderful legacy to give our children. I’m confident that they will be a success and I look forward to photographing their family for years to come.
